effectiveness of epistemologies of doing – this time using SL

with 2 comments

This semester is the first time I am using Secondlife in an Undergrad class – of course the process is based in the whole “epistemologies of doing and pedagogies of doing” that I’ve used in all digitally mediated spaces and classrooms since I started this kind of teaching in the 90s. The first set of papers in general were of good quality – but definitely all seem to demonstrate an immersive understanding that goes beyond just describing and experiencing the virtual world.

Today’s favorite quote (there are several others that are more articulate but this one if funnest – not funniest – for now).

I soon saw this loony virtual world as a learning experience. Not only were we learning how to find a building and build stairs we were learning other business tools to be utilized at a later date in our lives. I could not believe that one little game could teach me all of this.
